The Last Hour of the Franconian King
From 768 to 814 Charles the Great was King of the Frankish Kingdom and today he came back to your Kubb Tournament in Nuremberg. This ancient and Scandinavian parlour came dates back to the Early Middle Ages when it was played by the Vikings, which is why it is also called Vikings’ Chess in colloquial language. Your goal in this game is to eliminate the King again. After a short introduction into the rules of the game, two teams will be formed who try to bring about the downfall of the other team’s king. However, he is circled by little wooden blocks, his pawns, who defend him to the bitter end. In order to get through to Charles the Great during this Kubb Game, you will therefore have to take care of these pawns first. How you can do that? With team spirit, marksmanship and team work you will surely manage to eliminate them and the king and to be the winning team in the end!
Honouring the King
The guest performance of Charles the Great in today’s time was actually quite short, however, you should honour him, he was the King after all. You can do that by enjoying a delicious dinner with a typical Franconian Schäufele and a glass of Franconian wine and by celebrating in a laid-back atmosphere! He would have wanted it that way!
